On Oct. 21, the Correctional Training Facility (CTF) and Salinas Valley State Prison (SVSP) partnered with the Corrections Federal Credit Union to host the seventh annual Family Day.
The day began with a 5K and 10K Color Run with 98 participants. Employees and their family members and guests enjoyed a variety of activities throughout the day.
The day included a Chili Cook Off and a hot dog eating contest.
A featured activity was the CTF vs. SVSP softball game which was well attended and won by the CTF Chain Gang Team who maintained bragging rights for the year.
Other activities included a car and motorcycle show, horseshoe tournament and rock wall climbing. One of the highlights of the event was the tricycle obstacle course which challenged both kids and adults.
The Crisis Response Team (CRT) displayed all of their tactical gear, explained their mission and the roles they play in maintaining a safe prison and community.
The Investigative Services K-9 unit was a hit once again with the kids.
CTF Warden Shawn Hatton took a seat in the dunk booth as he challenged employees to hit the target, sending him in the water.
The DJ played music for the attendees as various vendors featured their services.
CTF/SVSP also hosted a tour of each of the prisons. CDCR Human Resources staff was also available for families in need. For the kids, time in the bounce houses, costume contest and their participation in a pumpkin-carving contest completed an eventful day.
