On Nov. 16, 2017, California Correctional Center (CCC) Warden Suzanne Peery and Chief Deputy Warden (A) Steve Cagle donated approximately 1,100 cellular phones to the local Soaring Eagles Chapter of the Blue Star Moms.

The Blue Star Moms are the mothers, stepmothers, foster mothers, grandmothers, and female legal guardians who have children serving in the military, guard, reserves, or children who are veterans.

The Blue Star Moms have recognized approximately 200 local residents and their families who are serving in the military. Their mission is to provide for our troops as they serve our country with simple but meaningful gestures like sending Girl Scout cookies, care packages, calling cards and other items.

CCC, Northern Camp and Investigative Services Unit staff in were diligent in 2017 in conducting searches which led to numerous inmates in possession of illegally obtained cellular phones. Contraband drops have been discovered at the camps and institution which have contained up to $250,000 worth of controlled substance, tobacco, cellular phones, alcohol, and other contraband items per drop.

The cellular phones are donated to a recycling facility, which in turn, gives the Soaring Eagles Blue Star Moms phone cards. The phone cards are sent to the military service member, which help them stay in touch with their loved ones while they are deployed.

“We are honored to help the Blue Star Moms make a difference in the young men and women’s lives serving in our military,” said Warden Peery. “At times, the service they provide to our country goes unnoticed or forgotten.”

CCC also donated 200 new cell phones to Lassen Family Services for Victims of Crime.

Lassen Family Services takes great pride in providing shelter, food, clothing, cellular phones, and any other necessity to victims of crime. Approximately 1,900 children become victims of abuse or neglect in this country every day.

Lassen Family Services provides a safe place for women, men and children to go who suffer from spousal, child and elderly abuse. The phones donated are given to the victims along with a safe place to reside.

Donating the phones to both Soaring Eagle Blue Star Mom’s and the Lassen Family Services is just one way for CCC staff to show their appreciation for all the two organizations do.
