Avenal State Prison reported the passing of retired Correctional Sgt. Ralph “Gunny” Bouknight on Jan. 10, 2018.
He began his CDCR career in January 1987. He spent his entire career at Avenal State Prison.
He promoted to Correctional Sergeant in December 1996 where he served until he retired in 2011. He also served two Retired Annuitant terms.
They don’t make em like Gunny anymore, one of the best Sgts at ASP!
Gunny was one of my 1st memories when I reported to ASP back in 98! Gunny ran a tight ship in the Watch Office! Great man and leader! I’ll never forget him. RIP

Gunny I’m so happy you took my husband under your wing when he started in Avenal back in 1997 he spoke so highly of you that I couldn’t wait to meet you well I finally did and I could truly see what he saw in you and your amazing wife. Well you have a new body now pain free rejoicing with the Lord so glad to have had the pleasure of knowing you. Rest in heaven till we meet again.
