California State Prison, Solano, staff participated in aiding a unique population in 2017. The endeavor marked the second Senior Santa Holiday Connections drive.

The staff at CSP-Solano provided gifts, clothing, food and assistance to seniors from the Fairfield, Suisun and Vacaville areas.

This event is spearheaded by Solano’s Education Department Administrators Pamela Ditto and Dr. Kenya Williams.

It all began last year around Thanksgiving when the Education department lost their Vice Principal, Dr. Michael D. Lyons.

“It was a way our staff could relieve their pain by helping someone else,” said Williams. “Because it was so successful, we have carried over the tradition of selfless giving to this often forgotten population.”

The faculty, staff, administration and employees were able to service 115 seniors and developmentally disabled citizens, provide 16 bags of food including a turkey and gifts for everyone on their list as well as fully sponsor a family with clothing, food and toys for the children.

The project has been very successful and organizers said they look forward to expanding in 2018.
