Nearly 700 volunteers recently gathered at Chino’s Victory Outreach Church for special training hosted by California Institution for Men (CIM). Warden Dean Borders led the event by recognizing the efforts of the dedicated volunteers who were in attendance. The men and women donate their time at CIM, California Rehabilitation Center (CRC), and the California Institution for Women (CIW).

Following Warden Borders, Community Resource Manager Delinia Lewis facilitated the four-hour class. Volunteer training covers various subjects such as inmate/staff relations, dress code, Prison Rape Elimination Act,and emergency procedures. Over 4,000 volunteers annually support CIM, CIW and CRC and their training is an annual requirement for those who volunteer on an ongoing basis.

Over 70 percent of the attendees have volunteered at CDCR for 10 years or more, but said this was their first time witnessing a warden publicly recognize those who dedicate themselves through volunteerism to the rehabilitation process and the reduction of recidivism.

“We appreciate the hard work and dedication of each of you, and I felt it was important to come out today and tell you in person,” said Warden Borders.
