SATF’s Tulare Adult School staff received awards: Greg Connelly, Academic Teacher of the Year; James Searcy, Career Technical Education Instructor of the Year; and LaWanda Sturkey, Support Staff of the Year.

The Office of Correctional Education held the second Central Region Education Training event at the Tulare Agriculture Center on May 2. Over 600 education staff members from Salinas Valley State Prison, Correctional Training Facility, California Men’s Colony, Central California Women’s Facility, Valley State Prison, Pleasant Valley State Prison, Avenal State Prison, California State Prison-Corcoran, SATF, Kern Valley State Prison, North Kern State Prison and Wasco State Prison were in attendance, as well as many wardens and associate wardens.

Each institution’s school was tasked with awarding their individual employees of the year. From these 36 institutional awardees, a special panel awarded three Regional Employee of the Year Awards.

SATF awarded Greg Connelly the Tulare Lake Adult School Academic Teacher of the Year, James Searcy the Tulare Lake Adult School Career Technical Education Instructor of the Year, and LaWanda Sturkey the Tulare Lake Adult School Support Staff of the Year.

Sturkey was awarded the Central Region Support Staff of the Year, Searcy was awarded the Central Region Educator of the Year, and Bernice Van Klaveren, with CCWF, was awarded Central Region Administrator of the Year.
