As the saying goes, nothing is as American as baseball and apple pie. While there was no pie, staff from two CDCR prisons recently had the chance to raise money for a good cause while taking in a ball game.
California Correctional Center (CCC) and High Desert State Prison (HDSP) staff enjoyed a baseball game at the start of the season with a portion of the money spent on tickets donated to the Special Olympics.
Between both institutions, 96 people attended the event. The CCC/HDSP Honor Guard presented the colors prior to the ceremony. All participants received a free Reno Aces hat and their names were entered into a drawing for multiple prizes.
The Aces played the El Paso Chihuahuas in a Star Wars Themed event. Numerous characters posed with families for photos and saluted the American flag as it was presented on the field while the National Anthem was sung by a Tina Turner tribute artist. The Aces won the game 2 to 1 and the evening came to an end after a fireworks display.
CCC and HDSP staff raised $784 from this event to donate to the Special Olympics.
