California State Prison, Sacramento, inmates recently raised more than $2,100 for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Sacramento.
Every month, one of CSP-Sacramento’s three high-security facilities or the minimum support facility holds a food sale fundraiser to support a local charity. The fundraisers alternate facilities each month to give everyone a chance to participate.
Community Resource Manager Therese Giannelli coordinates the food sales with local vendors to find different food options for the men. The inmates are charged retail price, plus a 30 percent surcharge, with the proceeds supporting a local charity or non-profit organization.
When the inmates on B Facility held their food sale, with food being purchased from a local grocery store and pizza restaurant, all proceeds benefited the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Sacramento.
The goal of the nonprofit organization is to inspire and enable all young people to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.
