Wasco State Prison– Reception Center (WSP-RC) hosted the Annual Chuck Howell Memorial Golf Tournament, formerly known as the WSP-RC Warden’s Golf Tournament, this spring.

This year’s tournament was dedicated to staff member Charles “Chuck” Howell, who unexpectedly passed away in December 2017.  Chuck was an avid golfer and was instrumental in making this annual event a huge success.

Warden John Sutton elected to have the tournament named after Chuck this year, as a reminder to all, of his commitment and dedication to this this tournament.  Chuck Howell’s daughter Ashley Howell-Bull was an honored guest at the event and was presented with a special gift for Chuck’s grandchildren from Warden Sutton on behalf of the institution.

Warden Sutton was on hand, greeting and thanking the 144 golfers and many volunteers who donated their time and hard work to make this event successful.

“The success of this tournament is an example of our institution’s relationship with the local community and the dedication and hard work of our many volunteer staff; they take pride in what they do. It’s great to see everyone working together, sharing laughs, and having a great time” he said.

All proceeds of this event go toward supporting local non-profit charities within the community of Wasco including Relay for Life, Kern County Honor Flight, The Orange Heart Foundation, and Wasco Little League among others.

WSP-RC continues to actively support the local community, partnering with local organizations that give back to the local community and maintaining a positive influence within Kern County.
