While attending a high school sporting event, an off-duty CDCR employee saw a man collapse. That’s when Mule Creek State Prison Correctional Officer Devin Vasquez rushed to assist.
Officer Vasquez, a 17-year veteran of the department, believed the man was suffering a heart attack. He started CPR and used the automated external defibrillator to resuscitate the man. The officer stayed with the man until emergency responders arrived and transported the victim to the hospital. According to medical staff, the victim is expected to make a full recovery in part due to the life-saving actions taken by Officer Vasquez.
“Officer Vasquez’ knowledge, training and experience are an asset to our Mule Creek team and the public’s safety. I would like to extend my sincere appreciation for his hard work, dedication to CDCR and going above and beyond to serve the public. Officer Vasquez exemplifies the outstanding work ethic the Department strives to recognize,” said Warden Joe Lizarraga.
