California Correctional Center’s High Rock Conservation Camp donated a bench and four chairs to the Swing for the Wish Fundraiser. The fundraiser was sponsored by Interstate Oil to benefit the Make a Wish Foundation. The handcrafted furniture made by the inmates at High Rock Conservation Camp, along with many other items donated from other agencies, was sold in a Silent Auction near the end of the summer.

Other items sold in the auction included but were not limited to inclusive vacations to Cancun, a Traeger Pro Series 34, Ski Packages at a Lake Tahoe Resort, and much more. The auction raised $45,000, and the items donated from CCC/High Rock Conservation Camp sold for a total of $2,165.

The money raised will help fulfill the wishes of children facing life threatening illnesses. Unfortunately, many children suffer from a variety of illnesses. This is one way to join together and give them a wonderful memory. Whether their dream is to go to Disneyland, meet a famous person, or just sit on a beach and enjoy the warm sand, it is a great opportunity to make a difference. In the United States and its territories, on  average, one wish is granted every 34 minutes.

In March 2017, a 14-year-old boy named Talon continuously returned home from school with painful headaches and nausea. One day he woke up with his head very swollen and pain throughout his body. He was transported to the hospital and upon receiving an MRI, it was discovered he had multiple tumors throughout his body and he was diagnosed with Stage 4 Neuroblastoma.

The young boy sustained 12 rounds of chemotherapy, corrective surgery, 20 rounds of radiation, multiple stem cell treatments and immunotherapy. He is now in remission and is cancer-free but will continue to receive treatment as a form of maintenance.

The Make a Wish Foundation heard of this young man’s struggles and granted him a wish. He had always dreamed of having a red Eagle Talon car makeover, and it was granted. This is just one of the many wishes granted every day.
