Kern Valley State Prison recognizes the importance of involving kids in after-school activities. Recreational activities and after school programs help develop qualities such as teamwork, communication, commitment and discipline. These important traits will no doubt help propel students on to future success.
Staff working on Facility C coordinated an inmate photo sale to raise money for this worthwhile cause. At the conclusion of the two-day fundraiser, $2,067.36 was raised.
Sgt. Pio Cruz and Sgt. Eddie Ruelas had the pleasure of presenting the check to Liberty Elementary School located in Tulare. The school was struggling to gather funds to buy jerseys for students to participate in after school activities.
Business manager for the school, Terri Shirk, said the school had been using jerseys they purchased 10 years ago. Liberty’s own fundraising efforts had not yielded enough funds to meet the need.
Shirk expressed her gratitude to the KVSP staff, inmates and Warden Christian Pfeiffer for the generous donation.
