Warden S. Peery recently presented Correctional Officer Jessica Gutierrez with the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Officer of the Year award. The Veterans of Foreign Wars holds an award ceremony for peace officers every year to show their appreciation for law enforcement, including California Highway Patrol, Susanville Police Department, Lassen County Sheriff’s Department, California Correctional Center (CCC), High Desert State Prison, Susanville City Fire Department and other agencies.

The Veterans provide wardens and supervisors with a plaque to present to each department’s selection for Officer of the Year.

This year, Officer Gutierrez was selected as CCC’s Officer of the year.

Officer Gutierrez has been employed by CDCR since March 2014. During her tenure, she has performed many duties and continually seeks to increase her knowledge of departmental operations.

In March 2016, Officer Gutierrez was assigned as the Security Threat Group (STG) Investigator for CCC, and has personally validated 35 STG members this year. Her leadership and guidance have been the elements needed to assist her partners with completing over 138 STG validations this year.

Officer Gutierrez has become a valuable asset to the institution and is phenomenal in utilizing social media to track and apprehend inmates who walk away from camp.
