North Kern State Prison
Taking pride in their philanthropy, North Kern State Prison has been actively involved with the community by contributing to local schools, youth groups and helping the less fortunate during the holidays.
Donations were made to the Delano Babe Ruth Youth Baseball and Delano Youth Football, providing both organizations with the ability to purchase much needed equipment. Contributions were also made to Pond Running Club, Robert F. Kennedy High School Cheerleading and McFarland Police Activities League.
Prison staff also donated Thanksgiving baskets for families in the community who are less fortunate. Staff from all areas, including the Central Transportation Hub, contributed to this event.
With imagination and creativity staff proudly exhibited their basket ideas. In all, 38 families received a basket filled with food and a certificate to obtain a turkey, thus providing them with a Thanksgiving dinner they might not have had otherwise.
The generosity and benevolence of the staff of NKSP is without comparison as they continually give to needy families and non-profit organizations.
The baskets displayed were judged by Warden Kelly Santoro, Matthew Cauthron of Delano Regional Medical center, Laurance Kapalac and Claribel Gutierrez both from the First Assembly of God.
This year’s “Best Overall” and “Most Generous” winner was the Medical and Nursing Department.
