Between September and December 2018, High Desert State Prison (HDSP) staff donated over $2,000 to the Lassen County Hoof Beats.

HDSP donated $1,165 to the group in September. Additionally, on Dec. 4, HDSP presented a second check to the Lassen County Hoof Beats for $906. All money was raised through fundraisers. The funds will be used to send four members to the Western National Round Up in Denver, Colorado. Hoof Beats Members Dyllan Bond, Titijuna Woltjen, Seth Souza, and Jorden Mahenski will be representing the State of California on a horse judging team and a public speaking team.

“After being up in Lassen County the last three years, I have learned a lot from the youth who participate in 4H, as I judge at their competitions,” said Warden M. Elliot Spearman. “I support any positive program that instills responsibility in today’s youth.”

Warden Spearman also thanked the offender population for doing fundraisers that support organizations such as 4H.
