Victims of the Camp Fire, that destroyed the town of Paradise, received some help thanks to generous staff at High Desert State Prison (HDSP).

On Dec. 18, HDSP donated $3,310 to Caring Choices, benefiting the fire victims. HDSP staff held a Camp Fire cash and gift card drive and the inmate population held a food sale and monetary drive.

Funds will be used for:

  • Short-term support: funds for immediate relief will be made available as they become identified to large-scale relief agencies to provide such support.
  • Long-term support: funds for long-term relief will be distributed towards rebuilding and recovery efforts as identified by local collaborative efforts.

Warden M. Elliot Spearman said, “This is what HDSP is all about, teaching offenders to think about others, and to give back to local Northern California communities. I truly appreciate the outstanding work all HDSP employees do as they instill restorative justice concepts within our offenders.”
