Kern Valley State Prison
Recently, the inmate population on Facility “C” at Kern Valley State Prison’s (KVSP) held its fourth annual Peace Day fundraising event. The inmate population partnered with staff to raise $1,844.50 for Honor Flight of Kern County, an organization dedicated to sending our American veterans to Washington D.C. to see the monuments and memorials built in their honor.
Several staff from KVSP were invited to the Bakersfield American Legion Post 26 to present the donation during the Legion’s monthly veterans breakfast. Nearly 200 people were in attendance for this special day.
In addition to presenting a check, staff served breakfast to the veterans and had the honor of sharing in some fascinating conversations with these American heroes.
The next Honor Flight is tentatively scheduled for spring 2019.
KVSP’s own Lt. Christopher Stanley will act as the guardian for the institution’s sponsored veteran on the upcoming trip.
