As part of CDCR’s wellness initiatives, Employee Health and Wellness (EHW) provided all institutions, Division of Juvenile Justice (DJJ), Headquarters (HQ) and Old Placerville Road with commercial grade flooring and fitness equipment to create on-site Activity Fitness Centers (AFC).
On Jan. 17, employees joined Undersecretary Kenneth Pogue for the grand opening of the HQ AFC located at 1515 S Street.
Undersecretary Pogue expressed his excitement and spoke to staff about CDCR’s commitment to employee wellness. Providing on-site activity centers is one of the ways CDCR is encouraging employees to engage in self-care to improve their overall wellbeing.
He also acknowledged and thanked the EHW staff for leading the AFC project.
Employees are excited about the opportunity to use the new facility, which also includes a ping pong table, donated by Katherine Minnich, CDCR Deputy Director of Human Resources, for some friendly competition.
Deputy Director Minnich, who is the champion behind the CDCR Wellness Program, is confident the on-site AFC’s will play a part in promoting a wellness philosophy.
CDCR recognizes a strong, efficient department cannot exist without healthy employees. The everyday choices we make can help us live healthier, happier, and more fulfilling lives—both at work and at home. Each of us can take steps, even small ones, to improve our overall well-being. CDCR hopes employees will take advantage of the AFC’s and other wellness resources available to them.
CDCR is thrilled to offer programs that will focus on the wellbeing of CDCR’s most valuable asset—our employees.
