The Division of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) reported the Feb. 16, 2019, passing of James Jordan McDuffy, former Chief of Security at the Ventura Youth Correctional Facility (VYCF).

McDuffy began his career with DJJ, then California Youth Authority, in 1974, as a Group Supervisor at the Heman G. Stark Youth Correctional Facility. Within five years, he was promoted to Youth Counselor and Senior Group Supervisor.

In 1980,  he transferred to Ventura Youth Correctional Facility (VYCF) where he was again promoted to Training Officer I.

During his tenure at VYCF, he promoted to Treatment Team Supervisor and obtained certifications in multiple treatment modalities. McDuffy assumed a number of important roles throughout his career including Assertion Counselor, Command and Operation Trainer and Gang Identification Project member.  Due to his knowledge, skills and professionalism, he was promoted to Chief of Security and continued in this position until he transferred to Parole in Glendale. He retired as a Program Administrator in 2003.
