Meet the trailblazing women of California corrections. In honor of Women’s History Month, CDCR shares this slideshow highlighting the historic contributions women have made to the department.
Women have been part of CDCR since the beginnings of San Quentin State Prison, where they supervised female inmates until they were transferred to Tehachapi in 1932. Today, the department employs thousands of women in every aspect of correctional service, from officers and medical personnel to teachers, wardens and executive leadership.
