In 2019, staff from California Correctional Institution (CCI) was back again for the fourth consecutive year competing in the Baker 2 Vegas Challenge Cup relay.

CCI staff survived the scorching desert and chilling mountains to finish once again. CCI’s time for the 120-mile relay race was 18 hours. The original goals of the race continue – teamwork, camaraderie, physical fitness and competition.  The race gives each staff member a reason to maintain top physical fitness, develop and strengthen their relationships with each other as a team.

Over the 35 years the Challenge Cup/Baker to Vegas Relay has been run, thousands of law enforcement personnel have tread across the desert. The number of teams has grown from the first 19 in 1985 to over 285 this year.

As a result of this growth, the race has flourished. Today it is the largest law enforcement event of its kind in the world with teams participating from Calgary, Berlin, Belize and law enforcement teams throughout the United States. The Challenge Cup/ Baker to Vegas has become an International event.
