For the fifth year in a row, the California Substance Abuse Treatment Facility and State Prison (CSATF/SP) at Corcoran employees participated in the Kiwanis Club of Corcoran Healthy Soles shoe drive, providing footwear to children in need.

The Healthy Soles shoe drive collects new shoes and distributes them to children between the ages and 5 and 17. CSATF/SP placed tags, with various shoe sizes, throughout the institution. The employees picked a tag with a designated shoe size, purchased a new pair of shoes and donated the shoes to the program. In addition to the shoe donation, CSATF/SP bicycle program was able to donate seven refurbished bicycles to the event.

Shoes distribution took place April 6 at John Muir Middle School in Corcoran.  Present to support the event was Chief Deputy Warden Theresa Cisneros and Community Resources Manager Jason Moore.

“Healthy Soles is an annual community event that emphasizes living a healthy lifestyle. There have jump rope contests, face painting, healthy snacks and even a Zumba instructor demonstrating family fitness exercises. And children get a new pair of sneakers too. The event was a well-attended success,” said Moore.
