North Kern State Prison (NKSP) gives more to the community than just donations. NKSP consistently receives requests from the Delano-McFarland area to participate in events.

“We do our best to give back to the community. We are a great team, but we represent the whole department,” said NKSP Warden Kelly Santoro.

One example is Read Across America, where staff participated at the Community Action Partnership of Kern preschool in Delano. Staff were delighted to read to children in four different classrooms. Some staff even brought their own personal favorites to read.

Another example is Warden Santoro and CDW Brian Kibler, along with other staff, assisted the American Heart Association of Bakersfield by decorating for the Go Red Women’s Event.

And yet another example was how Warden Santoro and staff pitched in to read to children at Kern Avenue School in McFarland.

NKSP is also currently holding fundraisers for Relay for Life and are on track to exceed last year’s total and possibly keeping the Top Team Sponsor trophy earned in 2018. Whether it is a fundraising event or going out to the community, NKSP is never at a shortage of staff willing to participate. Teamwork is key as staff from all departments eagerly donate their time.
